We then researched each company individually to find the most up-to-date employee numbers for workers based in the U.S., typically using companies' EEO-1 (Equal Employment Opportunity) reports on employee numbers by year.

The list of largest employers by state was taken from The Ascent. Figures from Stock Analysis and The Ascent were then cross-referenced to ensure the most recent figures for both sets of data.
